American Military University & AACOP Partnership

Professional Leadership for Safe Communities

Now Strategic Partners

American Military University (AMU), part of American Public University System, and the Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) recently announced the launch of the Law Enforcement Executive Leadership Program.

The program is designed to help prepare chiefs of police and other key law enforcement command personnel for their leadership roles through professionally relevant education. Jointly funded by AMU, AACOP, and the officers themselves, the AMU program will be offered in a fully online format.

Officers enrolled in the program will take three select courses in leadership and management through AMU, with the option to complete three additional courses in order to earn an undergraduate or graduate certificate in law enforcement leadership. Officers who wish to continue their education may then apply those courses toward either a bachelor's or master's degree in criminal justice, management or public administration at AMU.

"The Law Enforcement Executive Leadership Program with AACOP belies the importance of leadership in public safety organizations. AMU is committed to providing the educational support necessary to develop law enforcement leaders and help them meet the ever-changing demands of the 21st Century," said Constance St. Germain, Esq., vice president and dean of the School of Public Service & Health, American Military University.

Police Chief Michael Frazier, Surprise, Arizona and AACOP Executive Director Jan Strauss worked closely with AMU to develop this strategic partnership for law enforcement. In a joint statement, they commented: "AACOP is proud to partner with AMU to help further the professional reputation of the Arizona law enforcement community. We look forward to many of our chiefs of police completing this program in law enforcement leadership and ultimately continuing on to earn their bachelor's and/or their master's degree at American Military University."

"This is a significant step toward establishing Arizona as a leader among states in developing effective law enforcement leaders through education," said Jeff Kuhn, AMU associate vice president
